CRU MCAP System Training
Training
To assure proper application of the CRU MCAP System, The Oak Group and ModelAdvice provide reviewers and physician advisors training in both the logic underlying the MCAP Criteria and in the process of application. To best accommodate our clients’ needs with the least amount of workflow intrusion, we offer a variety of training modules, including on-site, web-based, and video conferencing.
Both clinical and technical support is available by phone during normal business hours. In addition, nurses are available to consult on difficult cases and train new staff members.
Initial Training
The initial training requirements of the facility are evaluated by ModelAdvice and The Oak Group. Generally, for new clients, an initial on-site two day training program is required, which is separate from the CRU MCAP System license pricing. This training prepares reviewers to interpret and apply the criteria correctly.
Follow-up Training
Follow-up training is performed three times after reviewers have begun using the CRU MCAP System. Follow-up training and observation of staff applying the criteria ensures proper application of the CRU MCAP System.
The standard training program is based on the assumption of 10 pupils in an acute care 600 bed facility. The first follow up training occurs approximately one month after the initial training and is comprised of two days ‘walking the wards’ with the trainees. This is followed by two additional two day observations at 3 and 6 month after the first follow-up training. This process ensures the maximum benefit from using the CRU System.
Reliability Testing
Following each annual training session, we measure assimilation of the training material through reliability testing. We then utilize the test results to customize subsequent refresher training sessions. The Oak Group staff scores the reliability test and sends a report to client administrators. Certification requires a score of 80% or greater, and reviewers who score less than 80% receive additional training before retesting.
Update Training
Subsequent to the annual criteria release for existing clients, The Oak Group provides an orientation course for previously trained users. The goal of this training is to reinforce proper and consistent application of the CRU MCAP System, as well as to update users on any changes made in the MCAP Criteria.
